Family Vet Visit | GBGV

Vet clinic

Animal Hospital

Last week it was that time again – the dreaded yearly all family vet visit.  Mom started taking all the pets to the vet together many years ago.  It can be a bit stressful with 2 dogs and 2-3 cats all at once but she thinks us pets are better off.  We are all together, none of us are singled out for having that “vet stink” and mom only has to remember one time of the year for everyone’s visit.  Another advantage at many vet clinics is the multi-pet discount.  I mean if we all have to go anyway, why not get 10% or so off the bill?

Since we have been in the US we have had a new vet almost every year.  Mom just can’t find a vet that she can trust and is happy with.  She got spoiled in Germany because one of her best friends was our vet and she knew she could trust her.  After much switching around we ended up at the Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital this year.  This clinic was recommended by some friends that really know dogs so we thought it would be a good place.  Mom pulled into the parking lot and was in the process of unloading all of us when one of the assistants

Ok, we were here, let’s go home

came out to help her.  The woman did not even know us but was there to help anyway – plus point 1.  We started out in the waiting room where mom had to fill out paperwork but she could not write and hang on to everyone so we got to hang out in the exam room almost right away – plus point 2.  Bert loves going to the vet – he is the only family member that enjoys it.  For him it is an adventure and he loves adventures and he is usually all over the exam room, steals treats, etc.  The lady that brought us in the room was so nice to us, she was playing

All of us sniffing up the place real good

games with us and passing out treats like it was a party or something (plus point 3 in the pets opinion), we were really liking this place more and more.

Once mom got all the paperwork filled out and the tech got all our information into the computer the vet showed up.  Poor Katie started shaking but not as much as usual.  We were all pretty relaxed actually!  Sophie had a great hiding spot under the exam table foot and was safely wedged in there.  I was going to read to pass the time but all they

Dog Fancy puts me right to sleep!

had was Dog or Cat Fancy and those magazines put me to sleep – boring…

We all had our exams, one at a time.  Katie is now 10 and the vet was totally impressed with her teeth!  She only had some slight discoloration and has never had them cleaned – lesson – brush the dogs teeth, it does really work.  The vet checked her eyes and said that she really needs glasses, her vision is ok, but no longer perfect but on the positive side, no cataracts.  She got some medicine for her slight arthritis and she was

Sophie, it is safe you can come out now!

done.  Oh yeah, she is also at an ideal weight!  My turn came next, my weight was perfect and my chompers are also in excellent condition!  I may have a food allergy so mom is switching me back to the previous brand of food I had but otherwise I am in great shape!  Next up was Bert, let’s call him Bert the bomb. He was in the worst shape of all of us.  He is about 3 pounds overweight, needs his ears cleaned and his teeth are not so great.  Typical boy I guess, just a mess!  Mom knows he is heavy but because of his special diet food she can’t put him on low cal food, so she is going to try to cut back.  She may try brushing his teeth but we don’t think he will go for that.  Sophie was the last victim, I mean, patient.  She is the picture of perfect health, not one issue at all!  Congratulations, Sophie, obviously laying around looking pretty is good for you!

We had so many treats while we were in the exam room, mom did not give us anything else the rest of the day! The nice people helped mom get us back out to our car and after an about 2 hour visit we were back on the way home.  Til next year nice vet! I think we found a winner finally!

Your Mom is so brave taking you all to the vet at once! Glad to hear that the visit went well and the clinic was so nice to you all! That’s they way it should be!

Congrats on your excellent health reports! I’m sure Bert will be back in shape in no time. My annual vet visit is coming up in a couple of weeks too. I like the vet, but I’m not so fond of the vaccinations. 😉

This was a no vaccination year so that was super nice and cheaper too!

Yeah for good health! Boomer and Dottie also go to the vet together when it’s time. I’m not sure if it helps them or not because I used to work for this vet and they know my pups and the pups know them so they aren’t as nervous.

One thing I can say is that quite a few people schedule their pets all at once, I’m not sure if it’s just easier to make the one trip or if their pets do better together, regardless it’s usually a zoo!

I’m with Bert on this one, going to the vet is fun. Especially when you get so many treats you can’t eat anymore. Well, I can always eat more, but you know what I mean.

The girls don’t like the vet at all, but that just means more treats for me.

Glad everyone was pretty healthy after their annual exam.

The treats make it tolerable but I can get treats at home, no need to head to the vet!

Yay! There’s nothing like finding a good vet! Congratulations!

I am shocked that someone called Flea Byte would like a vet ??? Love that name!

Sounds like a good vet office! All very good plus points! I love my vet – I’ve been going there for over 10 years and do not know what I would do if they ever went away or I had to move. So important to find a vet you can trust and that your pets love too.

    Lol – “vet stink” – that’s hilarious!

Glad to hear you got lots of treats!

  8. September 24, 2012 15:07

Oh lucky you! We are still on search for the perfect Vet. Good job on the perfect choppers, it’s hard to have good teeth at 10!

    • September 24, 2012 17:37

Yep, we are really proud of our teeth brushing efforts paying off!

  9. September 24, 2012 17:54

It doesn’t sound like there was too much mischief at the vet which is a good thing! Glad to read about all the good check ups!

    • September 24, 2012 17:59

The only mischief was my cat Bert always stealing treats and escaping the exam room! Cats!

Glad your vet visit went well! I take all of my dogs in at the same time and it is definitely a chore!

Yay – so happy you found a nice vet – when I first started reading I thought I was gonna have to suggest you drive over here to see mine – he’s awesome!! 🙂

I can’t even imagine being in a small room with all those Cats – I sure don’t know that I could behave like you guys – I wish Mum had got me a Cat when I was a puppy and I could have Cat family like you 🙂

Teeth brushing – shhhh – Mum keeps threatening to do mine – think she’s looking for an accomplice first as I don’t think she’s brave enough to tackle it on her own!! 🙂

    Wags to all

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

You should brush your teeth so you don’t ever need to be put under at the vet for cleaning – it is actually fun, we dogs love it!

  12. September 26, 2012 06:32

Glad you seem to have found the right vet. Sounds like you guys had quite a fun time, all being said.

    • September 26, 2012 10:00

It was the best vet visit we have had so far, still would rather not visit the vet but I guess we have to.

  13. September 26, 2012 10:23

    I’m glad to hear you’ve found a good vet – it’s important!

  14. September 26, 2012 15:55

I think its great that someone came out to help you to get in with everyone and then play with them to keep them entertained. Its really great that you are in good health except for Bert’s few pounds

    • September 26, 2012 16:09

Well, he is the only boy and a cat – can’t ask too much from him I guess. That vet is pretty good for a vet place!
