Memorial Day Weekend | GBGV | Mischief Monday

Happy Memorial Day!

DSC_7907

Buddy is here for the long weekend, so we are celebrating together and getting into some good mischief as well.  I think this holiday is more for the humans but we do our best to enjoy it in a doggy way!

We took a really great 2 ½ hour adventure walk on Saturday morning. Lucky for us the rain held off so we did not get soaked. Since there was no water from above and I was thirsty, I did take a bit of a dip in a pond and got a nice drink as well.  The water is still icy cold but that does not bother me in the least!

Once again mom forced us to break the rules! I don’t know if she can’t read or what but we found ourselves on the wrong side of the trail closed sign again. It was a fun trail, but I am sure glad we did not get in any trouble as I can’t see myself in the real slammer! You can’t see Buddy in the photo because he is too small to see between the boards but too tall to see below. Trust me, he is there right next to me!

We stopped for a pose and a break at one of the trail signs. It was ideal temperatures for walking, nice and cool, but we were still starting to get a bit warm and tired.

We were pretty wiped out from our hiking adventure in the morning, so the afternoon nap was a must!

worn out

As Buddy and I were settling into our beds for the night I found out he had never read my friend Snoopy’s Mischief book, Mischief Master Class! I decided I better read him some of my favorite chapters to give him some good ideas for Mischief.  He really enjoyed what I read and wished he had his own copy of the book!

DSC_7934

I guess Buddy took the mischief lessons I read to him seriously as he was the definite mischief winner of the weekend. He is a soccer freak, so if you haven’t seen him in action, check out this 10 second video from last summer. He never changes, so no need for a new video!

Problem was that mom mowed the lawn as Buddy was playing and when she finished and we came inside, Buddy was green! Oh boy! We are hoping the green disappears before his family picks him up on Monday night as he just was at the groomer before he came to our house…mom could be in a bit of a pickle if Buddy is still green!

DSC_7979

Last but not least I would like to remind all my friends to be on serious tick alert! Ticks are out in full force and almost every time I come inside mom finds one crawling on me. Ticks find me irresistible since I am low to the ground and I have a wonderful beard to live in. Yes, I have my tick repellant on but that only helps once they try to set up camp in my skin. It is best to have your parents check you over when you come in and get rid of any hitchhikers before they try to live on you and let the tick treatment be the second line of defense. Mom runs a thin comb through my fur to hopefully comb out any unwanted tickers. Remember too, that you don’t need to be in the woods to get a tick – that is a common misconception! Wood ticks hang out in grass all over the place, not just in the woods and will jump on you when you pass by!

It looks like you are having a very fun weekend, Emma! The photos are just great. I especially love Buddy’s green paws! Our dogs get those green paws after the lawn is mowed too. Ugh, ticks, we hate them, and we are always watching and checking for them too. I know they are not just in the woods because our dogs might have one on them just after playing in the yard…yuck.

    • May 27, 2013 09:19

Ticks are so bad! Hard to believe such awful little creatures are so dangerous! Buddy is slowly returning to his original color…whew!

  2. May 27, 2013 07:10

Y’all are looking mighty fine and festive, but yikes on those ticks! Happy Memorial Day everyone! We love all of our heros each and every day!

  3. May 27, 2013 07:26

Oh, oh, oh…. that photo of you reading the book is one of the best ever. Love it! We had our own BIG encounter with ticks and will be barking about it later this week. Hate ’em!

  4. May 27, 2013 07:49

Well, minus the ticks that all looks like great fun! Love the green paws. BOL

  5. May 27, 2013 08:02

HI Emma, it sounds to me like your Mom is more the mischief maker. She’s the one that puts you on the ‘wrong’ side of the trail signs and she’s the one who mowed the lawn? I think you should be writing about the mischief she creates!

    • May 27, 2013 09:21

Oh she is clever…she had things all turned around so we looked bad…thanks for removing the rug that was over my eyes 😉

Golden LAUGHS! If that happened to me, I have to stay outdoors until I get washed. That was cool with the soccer ball. The kids next door were playing and I watched them. When they had a goal, I just WOOF!. ick to the tick … one reason we will avoid going on a wooded hike. Have a great day. Golden Woofs

We get those nasty ticks just around our house in the grass areas…hate them! Mom did not want to give Buddy a bath so we are relying on the rain to get him cleaned up. Hope you have a pawsome Memorial Day!

  7. May 27, 2013 09:14

Lol! Buddy looks good green! So sorry to hear about all the ticks you are seeing around Emma, they are such nasty little things! Glad your Mom is keeping a close eye for them! Hope you have a great Memorial Day!

    • May 27, 2013 09:24

A least on my sister and I see can usually see them traveling along looking for a good spot but geez, we sure hate them!

  8. May 27, 2013 09:37

Thank goodness you didn’t end up in the slammer because of your Mom breaking the rules! Looks like you had a great time with Buddy though and thanks for the tick warning! Mom would be really freaked out if she sees one of those on me!

    • May 27, 2013 10:40

Unfortunately, we see those nasty little beasts so often walking on our fur…mom puts them in the garbage grinder…we hate them!

OMD Emma! You are going to be in so much trouble for Buddy’s green paws! Unless you can convince Buddy’s mom that he was touched by a leprechaun.

That shot of you reading to Buddy – that’s the kind of photo that needs to be on greeting cards. With or without words inside. Seriously. SERIOUSLY.

    • May 27, 2013 11:54

Thank you…it rained earlier and Buddy is thank goodness returning to his original color! Next time I have to be careful about what I tell him about mischief!

  10. May 27, 2013 11:36

Oh my dog! Emma reading to Buddy! That is so funny. I am rotflolwmrts (rolling on the floor laughing out loud with my rat terriers). I also love Buddy green. One time many years ago, my little beige poodles got into the garbage when there had been spinach in it. Their little faces were green for about a week, even after I washed them!

    • May 27, 2013 11:56

Oh my, spinach! Luckily his greenness is dissipating a bit…it was really green!

  11. May 27, 2013 11:43

Buddy has quite the expressive face – all his photos had me cracking up. Hope your carpet survived the adventure!

    • May 27, 2013 11:56

That green never seems to get on the carpet, just our fur 🙂 Glad you got a good laugh 🙂 Happy Memorial Day!

  12. May 27, 2013 13:08

Just look at those green paws… that’s too cute! I’m sure it will come off with time.

  13. May 27, 2013 14:54

I was already laughing at the fact that you couldn’t see Buddy in the “trail closed” picture, like he knew he didn’t want there to be any evidence that he was on the closed trail, but oh my dog! The green paws and face! Hahahaha! That made my afternoon!

    • May 27, 2013 17:45

I never thought about that he might have been hiding! Good observation 🙂 He was a mess but the main thing is that he had a good time!

Thanks you guys…after being out in the rain a lot on Monday, Buddy returned to his original color!

  15. May 28, 2013 05:17

I have never seen a green dog before BOL!

    • May 28, 2013 06:10

He was so green he was almost growing but hey, being green is in these days…maybe a different meaning, though!

  16. May 28, 2013 06:28

Yikes on the ticks! Love the green colored pup. That would be a good idea for St. Patty’s Day…lol. The first picture is also adorable!

    • May 28, 2013 06:31

Thanks! Actually, on the news last night they warned about the extreme amount of ticks right now…scary!

  17. May 28, 2013 06:39

Still laughing at the green fur! But those ticks are horrible.

OMD! Love the patriotic pix and green Buddy! That’s too funny!

  19. May 28, 2013 09:33

    Oh Emma,

You are such a wonderful teacher! When I saw one of those pics I thought buddy looked like your mini me, then I saw you were teaching him mischief – how pawfect!

And he was clearly paying attention cos the green trim was pawsome! 🙂

    You rock my friend

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

PS – Was he still green when he got collected? Tee Hee

    • May 28, 2013 10:25

We got lots of rain and it seemed to have washed it off of him and he was back to his original condition when he was picked up…whew!

Great post, Emma! Looks like you guys had a great weekend! You are so right about those woofing ticks – they’re everywhere!
And we’re so glad you posted that photo of Buddy – we’ve never seen a GREEN DOG before!!! A-rooo!

    • May 28, 2013 13:28

He just had to be so trendy since being green is in but I think he misunderstood!

  21. May 29, 2013 16:34

Wow….that does sound like a great adventure…even getting to go on closed roads! Glad you had a great holiday weekend, and showed your house guest a fun time! 🙂

    • May 29, 2013 17:38

Buddy was worn out as usual when he went home and no longer green, thank goodness!

  22. May 31, 2013 07:52

LOL that Buddy would have been perfect for St. Patrick’s day. 😉 Loved the video of him too.

Ticks are very bad this year, I usually rinse Sampson and Delilah with the hose and then dry them off and brush them. It seems to help, and I also spray them daily. It’s way better to find the wandering tick then to have to try and pull one off. 😦

    • May 31, 2013 08:56

Mom usually just checks us over for ticks walking along and then she combs out my face, ears and beard with a thin comb and hopefully that fishes out the majority of them. Getting all wet would be fun too but mom is happy if she can finally get me dry since I am always in puddles, ponds, etc.

  23. October 13, 2013 09:09

Wow – what fun you guys have.

  24. May 30, 2014 01:03

AAAAAAHHH! So adorable! Those pictures are hilarious! Looks like you’re enjoying yourself Emma, except for the ticks – I hate ticks as much as you do. Hope you get rid of all of them soon! -Maria

    • May 30, 2014 06:02

Ticks are just nasty and we can’t imagine any positive purpose they could serve on this planet. Have a fun day!

Love those green legs!!! How funny. You’ll have to let us know how long it took him to de-green. Oh, and that tick is NASTY! I HATE those things!!! They give me the creeps…
