Baking is serious business, are you ready?

Baking is serious business, are you ready?

Last week I got those Easter eggs dyed and today I am going to get some tasty Easter cookies baked.  You may notice in some of the photos you can see my new paw print measuring spoons mom bought me.  I guess they are kind of an early Easter gift since they are lavender and I get to use them for my baking today – I just think they are so cute! I also have a stuffed bunny observing my baking today…I have to be careful he does not sneak any of my carrots!

Grating the carrots is the hardest part!

Grating the carrots is the hardest part!

My cookie recipe today is really healthy as it is full of carrots and most of us dogs like carrots. Wabbits also love carrots which make these cookies ideal for Easter.  Maybe if I have some left after Easter I can use them to attract more wabbits to my yard…I will have to think about that.

The hardest part of this recipe is getting the carrots grated.  You can use a hand grater but then your human needs to help because I guarantee you that you will end up grating your

paws and that would be a bloody mess! I have this handy dandy Bosch mixer with a grating attachment so I just stick the carrots in and they come out as I want them. You can grate them as fine as you want but the less fine they are, the more you will see them in your cookies.

You will need a nice mixing bowl to put all the ingredients in and you will need to get in there with your paws to really knead the dough until it is all mixed together.  It is kind of a lumpy cookie dough because of the carrots but that is

ok.  Put some flour on your counter and then

roll out the dough. Sometimes I like to make sure I have all the dough out of the mixing bowl, so I will stick my whole head in the bowl to get the best look possible. From the photo it looks like I passed out in the bowl, but no worries I am just fine!

Roll the dough out ¼ to ½ inch thick depending on how you want your cookies and then cut out the cookies with your favorite Easter cookie cutters.  I have 2 different

wabbits because I love wabbits, a carrot and a chick. The chick did not work out so well, looks more like a ball, so I made mostly wabbits and carrots for my cookies.  You can also put an egg wash on top to make them glossy, but this time I did not do that.

Once you have them on the greased cookie sheet, stick them in the oven to bake for about 20 minutes. I like to check on them to make sure they are ok and not burning up or anything, although I can usually smell that

Once they are out of the oven I put them on cooling racks and then it is time to dig in and give them a taste! These are super yummy I do have to say!

  12. March 26, 2013 11:03

You’re so good in the kitchen, Emma! I wish you could come to my house and do some baking. =)

    • March 26, 2013 12:24

I would love to as long as I get to eat some of what I bake 😉

  13. March 26, 2013 11:21

Emma! You’re a super dog! Carrots are amazing in baked goods. My dogs don’t have the dexterity or patience to take carrots from their original form to a baked good, though,

    • March 26, 2013 12:25

It is a self rewarding behavior, so I had to learn to wait 😉

  14. March 26, 2013 11:53

The only thing better than those cookies is that shot of your face in the bowl! Too funny.

  15. March 26, 2013 14:50

Oh, those look and sound so tasty! I had to laugh when you stuck your head in the mixing bowl, but the rest of the time I was taking careful notes!

    • March 26, 2013 16:58

You are correct with laughing, my mom is still laughing about that move…not very professional but that’s ok, I am more about having fun 🙂

  16. March 26, 2013 15:29

Uh, Emma…did you fall into the mixing bowl or were you sampling the goods before they were baked?!? These cookies sound yummy. We may have to gove them a try.

Looks like I fell, but I was just trying to sneak a taste and make sure the bowl was really empty!

  17. March 26, 2013 17:04

Emma, I just laughed outloud when I got to the picture of you with your head in the bowl. I’m laughing just thinking about it. You are such a cutie! Hope the Wabbits like your leftovers!

  18. March 26, 2013 18:37

Hey Emma…do you think we could get you to come to our house and cook! Tee Hee! We think you were tasting the cookie dough when you stuck your head in the bowl cause that is what we would have done! We would have licked those bowls clean!

    • March 27, 2013 06:11

I guess I got caught pretty good with my head in that bowl!

  19. March 26, 2013 19:10

The cookies are cute, but you “falling” in the bowl is even cuter. I have GOT to get the boys a chefs hat!!! 🙂

    • March 27, 2013 06:12

Thanks…please, get those boys a hat and started on baking for themselves!

  21. March 27, 2013 01:18

    • March 27, 2013 10:58

LOL…you are funny 🙂 She found them online but couldn’t find a store that had them but eventually she found them on Ebay. They are silicone, really nice and not too expensive either.

I love the photo of you with your head in the bowl, I really though you’d passed out. 🙂
