My Floppys

Only 9 weeks old and mile long ears!

My floppys, my long floppy ears – I find them useful and mom just loves them because she says they are so cute!  Well, in my opinion (and usually hers too) everything about me is cute 🙂  Aside from being so cute, I have to say they can also be a major problem.  Any of you out there with long floppy ears most likely knows the pain of an ear infection or smelly ears from too much swimming, well, I have a few stories and solutions for you all!

Shaking like a leaf on the table

My floppys first became an issue when I was a puppy.  I was very tiny and somewhat uncoordinated and my ears were very long and “floppy”.  Mom found it hilarious but it was really irritating for me, but as I would walk along, I would sometimes actually trip on my ears and fall over.  If I did not hold my head up while walking my floppys would fall on the ground and I would step on one causing me to lose my balance and fall over.  Mom could not stop laughing but I did not think it was really amusing!  You can see in my photo at 9 weeks that those ears were like 747 airplane wings, no wonder poor little me tripped over them!

I quickly grew into my ears and then all the big trouble began.  My mom had dogs with floppy ears before, even my sister has floppy ears but just small floppys.  Mom did not know that she had to keep cleaning my inner ears and remove the excess hair.  When I was about 8 months old my vet showed my mom what a mess my ears were – it took 3 people to get the hair pulled and the wax and dirt

Yay! Shopping after my ears are all done!

out of my floppys.  It was terrible and it was determined that I needed to have this done every 6-8 weeks.  It was not something I wanted to hear.  Most people can do their own dogs ears but not with me because I have excessive hair deep down in my ears.  Since I love water the water gets trapped and causes infections.  The first few years of my life I had ear infections several times a year plus getting the hair pulled out – I wanted to return my floppys!

Poor mom tried everything to keep my ears from getting infected and bought just about every ear cleaner on the planet but oddly, every time she used ear cleaner I would get a new infection shortly aftewards.  Last summer she found a recipe for a homemade ear cleaner for PBGVs and decided to try it.  We are so happy to say that it is a miracle!  Yay – I have not had an ear infection in a year and I let mom touch my ears AND there is barely any goop in my ears when I go to get my ears pulled! We are so thrilled to have found this recipe and would recommend it to anyone with long floppy ears and infection issues.

I still have to go have my ear hair pulled but it is not as bad anymore and mom takes me shopping after I am done as a reward and I get to sniff out a special treat.  I shake like a leaf when I get in the place, sometimes mom has to carry me because I refuse to walk but slowly I am getting better since it is not so painful anymore.

Click here to download the ear cleaner recipe if you would like to try it.  My vet said it is fine to use but I am not accepting any liability if you use it, have to say that to cover my cute furry behind.  It is just a friendly tip from one floppy eared pup to other floppy eared pups- please check with your own vet.  Now mom and I can both truly love my floppys again : )

    Emma,

I’m sorry but I chuckled about you falling over your cute floppy ears! 🙂

I’ve also got big floppy ears, lots of children ask where are my ears cos they can’t see them cos of all my fur 🙂

Mum was told I should get my ear hair pulled out too when I was a pup, but her vet said he wouldn’t advise it and see first if I got any infections – so far I’ve not had a single one and Mum is super happy 🙂 Great to know if it does happen that you’ve got a fab recipe though buddy 🙂

    I hope you’re having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

We love your floppy ears! We don’t have floppy ears and we get ear infections. We feel your pain cause we don’t like ear infections either!

    Have a great week!

My ears are floppy, but they’re quite small for my size and I’ve never had a problem. I hope yours stay better.

    Hey Emma, Jet here.

Mom is at the w–k place and is not supposed to laugh, otherwise, she would laugh a lot! Not at you, but at your wonderful writing style! As you know, JJ has floppy issues too. Her floppies are not as pronounced (Vocab Building Project – VBP) as yours (we think they’re adorable btw), however, get infected and have hair in them as well.

So, thank you for the recipe, Mom used to make aromatherapy products, so, she knows about that stuff!

Thank you for the compliment – it is really good stuff – amazing actually!
