Staying Cool In My Pool | GBGV

June 13, 2012

Mom, please get my pool set up!

FINALLY, and I do mean FINALLY, mom has my pool set up!  It is practically mid-June for Pete’s Sake, summer is nearly over and just now she gets it set up!  Luckily I have been able to go swimming on several of our walks, a small consolation!

I love my pool.  My sister Katie thinks it is just a giant water bowl for her to drink out of and I am ok with that.  She hates getting wet.  Her idea of swimming is getting her feet wet but God forbid if I shake off all over her – she gets

Katie’s giant water bowl, aka, my pool

really mad! Even when we lived in Germany and were on the beach at the the North Sea almost daily she never did more than wade in the water – she is totally missing out but what can I do?

Some might not get it as I say I am swimming but I am actually just lying in my pool.  My pool is pretty small, so I can’t swim and I don’t like to play fetch, so no running in and out of the pool for me.  I enjoy just lying down, getting myself good and soaked and then off to my

Ahhh…chillin’ in my pool!

beach towel for some fur tanning,  I love to lie in the sun. Put me in a lake and I will swim and sometimes I even fetch a few sticks but not in my pool.

This past weekend it was over 90° and super humid so it was ideal pool weather.  I can be outside a lot more if I have my pool to chill out in now and then.

Another thing that mom does for us in the summer is to make cold snacks which we love and they are super healthy as well.  Mom says they are easy and inexpensive to make too.

Catching some rays!

Even if your mom can’t cook, she can handle making these snacks for you!

The simplest one is frozen bananas.  When we have bananas that get too ripe for mom to eat, she peels them, cuts them in half and puts them in the freezer.  We love bananas so when it is a hot afternoon she halls 2 halves out of the freezer and gives Katie and I each one – so yummy!!!

The other treat is pupsicles.  At first I did not like them but that is because I can be picky and

Yummy, refreshing pupsicles!

don’t like new stuff too much.  You can use an ice cube tray but mom uses popsicle molds, buy some low sodium chicken broth and pour it in the molds, place in the freezer for about 30 minutes.  You will also need some chews or rawhide sticks for handles and mom likes to chop up some carrots too.  After the 30 minutes she puts the frozen carrots in the partially frozen broth and then sticks the rawhide stick in for a handle and leaves them for several hours.  It is that simple and then you have pupsicles!  They are best enjoyed outside as they can get messy when they start melting.

Hey Emma, Hey Katie, Jet here.

Wow, what an awesome pool and great accessories. You look so comfy in your pool.

My golden sister, Koko, may she be frolicking over the Rainbow Bridge, was not a fan of any body of water. I learned how to swim after I joined Mom’s family at the dog park… and… in the canal behind our house. (Mom says I smelled like a swamp dog when I finally got out… you see I escaped a few times…) We do not have a fence, so, I have to swim supervised… We’re not sure if JJ likes to swim yet… It’s been 85+ for over 2 months… MOM – what’s taking so long????
